Slip Joint

For light well intervention on a subsea well, connecting a high pressure riser to a small vessel is a particular challenge. Most slip joints developed to date have required them to be fully stroked out to seal wellbore pressure.

Geoprober designed, built and tested a prototype that meets the API specification for slip joint seals that can also be locked in any position. The polyurethane seals were pressure tested to 7,500 psi. Furthermore, it provides a low pressure seal (25 psi) when in slipping mode.  The sealing element is a standard hydraulically energised packing element as used in Coiled Tubing strippers.  The inner and outer slip joint barrels are standard API casing joints.
